The OVMTB families had an amazing opportunity last week to get an inside look at the premier mountain bike event organization company in the cuontry. Todd Sadow, owner of Epic Rides, reached out to the coaches after hearing praise of some of our current student athletes on a local group ride (kudos to Ethan, Josh, and the Adams brothers), and asked what he could do to help. We ended up setting up a tour of Epic Rides HQ, a pizza party, a movie night highlighting the local 24 Hours of the Old Pueblo, and a Q & A session with Todd.
We had student athletes and families from the OVMTB club, the Vail Composite MTB team, and El Grupo in attendance, and there was minimal trash-talking between these Southern Arizona rivals. Being the first one of these events, we had the fortunate problem of more people attending than pizza bought, but everyone still had a good time, and Todd is already asking when he can do it again!
We appreciate the support of our local mountain bike community and look forward to more events like this. Let's return that support by staying involved through the off-season. There are tons of volunteer opportunities at the upcoming 24HOP, several upcoming race opportunities through the MBAA (entry feeds pay for race course maintenance and grants for trail development), as well as trail build days through SDMB (Feb 11th, Starr Pass), TORCA (Feb 18th, 50 Year), and Team OVB (Feb 26th, Starr Pass).
